Cyril Okosun, 22, was on Monday remanded in Benin prison for bathing his girlfriend, Blessing Ikhumuhi, with acid.
Okosun was remanded in prison on the order of an Ikpoba-Okha Area Customary Court sitting at Idogbo.
The accused was alleged to have emptied acid on Ikhumuhi’s face and body after she called off their relationship, on April 9, 2013.
Counsel for the accused, Fidelis Oriafo, pleaded for his bail, but the prosecutor, Inspector Victor Ehiorobo, objected on the grounds that the victim was still in critical condition at the University of BeninTeaching Hospital.
President of the court, Esther Eweka adjourned the case until July 23, for hearing or “possible consideration of bail.”
“I am objecting to bail application by the accused counsel, because the prosecutor said that the victim is still in a critical condition, so he will be remanded in prison custody,” she said.
